
LIFE Index-Air promoted two seminars about air quality at Secondary School of Bobadela (Loures, Portugal)
Within the framework of “Cientificamente Provável” programme, IST team members Nuno Canha and Joana Coutinho presented two 60 minutes’ seminars at the secondary school of Bobadela, with the title “O ar é de todos – o quê, porquê e como?” (“The air belongs to everyone – what, why and how?”) for two classes of 9th year (with a total of 40 students and 3 teachers). The seminars were held in 5th February.
These seminars aimed to understand the importance of air quality, pollution sources and measures to improve indoor and outdoor air quality.
Moreover, an experiment was prepared for the students develop in their school in order to apply the knowledge acquired with the seminars that would occurred in the following weeks. The experiment was the assessment of indoor air quality of one classroom and the school’s library and the critical evaluation of the data. Latter, the students would prepare a short report about the outputs of the work developed and present it in a session for other students.
The program “Cientificamente Provável” is a joint initiative of the Portuguese State Secretariat of Education through the School Libraries Network and the Portuguese State Secretariat for Science, Technology and Higher Education. It aims to intensify the promotion of knowledge and contribute to the enrichment of the training of young people by establishing closer links between higher education institutions and basic and secondary schools, through the intermediation of school libraries.
